Homework Battles

I apologise in advance for the rant but I am so tired of the regular homework battles with my children especially on weekends and school holidays, I just wish we could all have a break from it!

I'm sure many of you will be familiar with this subject, with the constant asking "have you got homework to do, shouldn't you be doing your homework, is your homework finished" etc etc. That is usually followed by grumpy faces, unhappy stares and sometimes stomping around which then makes me feel like a terrible mother for even daring to suggest that they get it done.

I want my children to learn as much as they possibly can and love helping to educate them at home as well but I hate having to nag them, in my opinion they need to be able to come home and let loose, to do things purely for the fun of it, blow off some steam.  Instead they always seem to have some kind of homework hanging over their heads.  I do encourage them to get it done as soon as they've been given it but it's not always possible and then we know there will be more homework on the way.

Our 11 year old son, T, told me on the weekend that one of his friends spent 5 hours on Saturday doing some maths homework and he hadn't even finished it, 5 hours!!!!  N's homework certainly isn't as bad as T's as she is still at junior school but on school holidays it tends to be quite imposing and I just feel that it isn't necessary for an 8 year old.

I'd love to know what you think about your children's homework so please feel free to leave a comment.
