Facebook Page 'Likes' Are So Hard To Get

Out of all the social media I use, I've found that Facebook is by far the most difficult to gain followers/likers.

I'm not on Facebook personally and I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. To set up a Facebook page you have to use a personal account so I used an account which we had set up ages ago purely for gaming purposes. I was pleased to discover that I could use Facebook as my page rather than the personal account and I happily went on a search for my favourite blogs/authors and 'liked' their pages from my own page account. Then I discovered that by doing it that way their total Facebook likes weren't increasing. It didn't even inform the page owner that I had liked it!

Apparently you have to like pages from your personal account for it to show up on their 'like' counters. I think this is so silly, a like is a like and should show up no matter what. Basically I would need to 'like' a page from both accounts and quite honestly I don't have the time nor energy to be faffing around like that. Another problem with doing this is the fact that I don't use the personal account at all, we set it up in hubby's nickname which means no one would know it was me following them anyway so it all feels a bit pointless.

Facebook

There is a way to check how many pages have liked your page by clicking on Page Likes This Week on the right hand side and then clicking See All and on the drop down menu switching from People Who Like This to Pages That Like This. For me this shows that I have 4 pages that have liked mine which would make my total 9 instead of 5. It is such a ridiculously small number that you're probably wondering why I care but for me, as a newbie, every person counts!

In my opinion Facebook really do need to change this, it makes it far less enjoyable to use than Twitter (which is very user-friendly) and actually puts me off using it. I keep telling myself that I need to increase my presence on Facebook, and I really do want to, but when I get on there I can't stand all the restrictions and quickly head back to Twitter.

My Facebook page can be found here, I will return any likes but I can't promise you'll know about it!

What do you think?

  1. Arr how frustrating is FB?! What frustrates me is that they are so intent on making money that they don't show posts to anyone so you have to pay to get them seen! They are not getting my money ;-)
Happy Easter anyway :-) I am visiting you from the Single Mother Ahoy! weekend linky. My first time, don't really know what I'm doing LOL! X

    1. Lol thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

It seems that making money is a priority for FB, it certainly isn't about making it easier for people to actually use! Very frustrating but good to know I'm not the only one who thinks so :)

  2. Oh blimey I didn't know this! What a silly rule. TBH, I don't want to like loads and loads of blogs on my personal fb anyway as it would fill my newsfeed! Am happy to through my blog page but didn't realise this didn't show up on the owners page, how strange! Good luck getting your head around it - I get most of my traffic from facebook so it's worth it for me but agree it's a complex business!

    1. That is another good point - if you like all the pages with your personal account, your newsfeed would be crazy!! I just cannot believe that FB think it's an acceptable idea.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting :)

  3. I didn't know this but has noticed when pages like mine my numbers didn't go up! That is so stupid! To get more likes try joining UK bloggers on Facebook. They have posts to like others pages and maybe put a Facebook like widget on your blog. I have one on mine xxx

  4. I also find twitter far easier to use and a lot more beneficial than facebook. I'm also a newbie and getting your likes/follows up on social networking sites as well as the blog it's self can be hard work and some what frustrating at times.

    1. Good luck with sorting your own page out, to be honest it wasn't too difficult to set it up, it's just difficult to get your likes number up!

Thank you so much for stopping by and for the like on Facebook :)

  6. FB has changed so much since those early days Kate. I've had to set up interest groups to ever have a chance of seeing what I want to see!

BTW, I liked your page :)
