A V Family Adventure Starring Steve Backshall and The Brave Bones Club

Steve Backshall is somewhat of a legend in our household. He first gained that status after we saw him take on the bullet ant ritual where he was stung hundreds of times by the world's most painful stinging insect!

Since then we have witnessed, with awe and admiration, many of his exciting adventures and have also been encouraged to take part in our own, less dangerous and far less painful, adventures.

Recently Steve has teamed up with the Brave Bones Club which is an initiative set up by Cheestrings and Yollies (the V Family love these almost as much as we love Mr Backshall by the way) to encourage families to have safe but brave adventures. You can find out more about the Brave Bones Club, and get some bonkers badges while you're at it, by visiting the website here.

The Brave Bones Club

This leads me to our most recent adventure which took place at a local woods popular with dog walkers and cyclists. We've been to these woods many times for both reasons but this time was a little bit different, because this time we took some bug/bird spotting tools with us...

V Family Adventure

We spotted a birds nest in a tree using binoculars...

V Family Adventure

We figured out which direction we were travelling in with T's compass...

V Family Adventure

We found lots of bugs...

V Family Adventure

E enjoyed watching the older two and shouting at them to come back...

V Family Adventure

Flint was super excited and ran about like a crazy thing, here he is taking a much needed rest while the kids were busy finding bugs...

V Family Adventure

In the distance we spotted some huge trees that had been blown over, this had created big mounds of dirt and roots (T was most impressed by this)...

V Family Adventure

The kids climbed trees...

V Family Adventure

T took his torch for the darker parts of the woods...

V Family Adventure

They had so much fun in the fresh air exploring the woods...

V Family Adventure

I even caught a lovely brother/sister moment on camera which is very rare with these two...

V Family Adventure

And the best part of it all? It cost abslutely nothing!

If you think our adventure looks good, can you just imagine how amazing it would be to experience it with the legend that is Steve Backshall? I'm pleased to say that this is entirely possible (although not in our local woods I'm afraid) thanks to a fantastic Brave Bones Club competition. Four very lucky boys and girls will have the opportunity to win a mini-adventure with the man himself in the great outdoors. Each adventure will be filmed and each video will appear online throughout the school holidays.

Steve has more information for you right here:

What an amazing prize!

The competition closes at 1pm on Friday 29th May 2015 and there are two ways to enter...

1. Click on the following link and by the magic of the internet you'll be taken to a page where you can enter your details for a chance to win this super prize.

2. Design a Brave Bones Club badge. More information about how to do this can be found by clicking the link below.

So what are you waiting for? Get your entries in and good luck from the V Family!

I'll be sharing the winners videos right here on V Family Fun in the school holidays. I'm hoping they might provide some inspiration for activities to do outside with the children during those weeks. So watch this space...

In return for sharing this information I am being sent a complete adventure starter kit so we can continue our V Family adventures in style.

  3. I love the idea of the brave bones club and the badges would make it all the more fun for kids to join in with. Your woodland adventure looks lots of fun and bonding time for the kids too, its amazing without others around how they find company in each other united over the same activities. Lovely photos and some interesting creepy crawly discoveries too. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

    1. Thank you for stopping by! The creepy crawly photos were so difficult to take seeing as I'm scared of them lol. The great outdoors is the perfect place for bonding and sharing fun activities, now the nicer weather is here we should be out more often.

Thank you for hosting Country Kids, it's a lovely linky :)
