"When Jordie Bennet and Shaw Kinnard locked eyes across a run-down bayou bar, something definitely sparked between them. Shaw was the kind of tall, dark and ruthless man who was bad news to women and stunning, elegant Jordie definitely shouldn't have been in a dive like this. Unfortunately, romance wasn't in the air; Shaw Kinnard was there to kill her.
As Shaw's partner takes aim at the New Orleans party planner. she's certain her time has come, but Shaw has other plans. The hitman abducts Jordie hoping to get his hands on the 30 million dollars her brother has stolen. Now on the run from the FBI and her brother's crooked boss, they'll have to work together to stay alive, but staying together might be the most dangerous thing they could do."
The blurb for this book completely reeled me in, it had me asking a thousand questions and generally left me feeling desperate to start reading. I had high expectations for an exciting, heart-pounding read, but is that what I got?
The prologue set the scene well, giving me a feeling of danger that continued throughout the storyline. I haven't read a book from this genre for a while and I relished the change, it felt refreshing. I really enjoyed playing the detective, especially seeing as every page seemed to hold another mystery.
The hostage situation was nerve-wracking yet exciting, just what I'm looking for from this genre. Shaw had a mixture of qualities that made him the perfect bad guy/hot male lead, I wanted to dislike him but I just couldn't! The sparks of chemistry between Shaw and Jordie were fantastic to read and added to the excitement that had already gripped me from the moment I started reading the first page.
Sting was one of those books that had me thinking about it even when I wasn't reading, I always looked forward to getting the chance to pick it up and sink into the storyline once more. I think the combination of suspense and romance was what appealed to me so much, it was intoxicating.
There were plenty of unexpected moments but one in particular really shocked me. I absolutely hadn't seen it coming, what a fabulous twist! The final revelation was another shocker, I'm usually pretty good at predicting outcomes but this one definitely beat me.
This was a gritty, unputdownable read that held my attention throughout. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
